Just one day after winning the South Dakota State ASA 16U "A" title, South Dakota Fusion Black left for Overland Park Kansas for the USSSA World Series, featuring 65 teams from across the central Unites States and Canada July 19th thru 25th. Fusion Black went 7-2 on the week, finishing tied for 13th in a tourney that featured temperatures around 95 degrees and humidity to match.

Fusion Black started play Tuesday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Kansas City Slammers. The ladies in black followed it up with Wednesday with a 4-2 win over Omaha Sizzle Blue (who eventually finished third) and a 1-0 win over the St. Louis Stingers. Their 3-0 record in pool play gave Fusion Black a number one seed as bracket play began late in the week.
Fusion Black fell behind early against the Minnesota Mayhem on Thursday, but then rallied for a dozen runs to win 12-3. The win put Fusion up against the Kansas Hot Stix, who lived up to their name in the 12-1 win and sent Black to the losers bracket early.

Fusion Black got things rolling again Friday night with a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Classics, and then kept rolling Saturday topping Minnesota Players Only 1-0 and the Nebraska Fire and Ice 3-1, putting the Black in the tournament's sweet 16. By Saturday night, Fusion Black was as hot as the Kansas air, and held a 1-0 lead over the Wichita Mustangs when heavy storms stopped play for three hours. When the game resumed, Fusion's bats had cooled, while Wichita's heated up, and a 9-1 loss ended the night, the week and the season for the ladies in black.

Congratulations to Fusion Black on a great 2010 campaign that finished with a 45-22 record against the toughest teams from Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Canada and South Dakota. |
