Fusion Black, April Fools Shootout

The South Dakota Fusion Black began the 2010 campaign, their second season at the 16u level, April 10th and 11th in Omaha, Nebraska at the April Fools Shootout. Fusion Black went 4-1 on the weekend and got a chance to get a feel for where they are at and what still needs work.

Saturday got off to sluggish start, as Fusion made a number of errors in the first inning to put themselves in a 2-0 hole against the Nebraska Aftershock. Once the girls got settled in, the bats came alive and Black scored six unanswered runs to get the 6-2 win.

Next up was the Omaha Frozen Ropes Fury. Again, the ladies in black dug themselves a 3-0 hole early, but were able to put a run on the board midway through the game to make it 3-1. With the 65 minute time limit time running out, Fusion turned it on and scored three runs to notch the 4-3 win.

In the night cap played under the lights, Fusion Black didn't waste anytime jumping on the Flames of Nebraska, cruising to a 6-0 win and getting the #2 seed for Sunday.

Sunday morning's first game was all Fusion when Black faced the Omaha Metro Fusion. Both teams scored a run in the first inning to knot the score at 1-1. With runners in scoring position throughout the game, Fusion Black couldn't get that extra hit to push them across the plate. In the last inning, the ball started to drop as Fusion Black put the game out of reach with four insurance runs to give them a 5-1 win.

The semi final game was a rematch with the Frozen Ropes Fury. Again, both teams scored a run early to tie the game at 1-1. Fusion had more runners in scoring position, but this time, the key hit didn't come, and Fury scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the 2-1 win.
