16U Captures First Place at ASA Spring Fling
Omaha, NE - April 18th, 19th

The Fusion 16U went south to Omaha to compete in the 2009 ASA Spring Fling and what a weekend it was! Fusion went 5-0-1 for the weekend and captured 1st place. The team combined for a weekend total of 54 hits and 33 runs. We definitely had the tougher side of the bracket and that is just what we were looking for. Right out of the chute Fusion played Echoes Extreme and came out on top 5-1. Fusion then came up against a newer Bellevue Shockers team and won 11-1. The last pool game of the day on Saturday brought the Midwest Slammers to the plate and what a battle it was! Both teams fought a hard fight with the score ending 2-2 when time ran out.
Sunday took Fusion into the tough side of the bracket again with a number 2 seed facing the same two hard fought battles from the day before. Game one brought back the Echoes Extreme wanting revenge from Saturday but that was not meant to be, Fusion came out on top 2-0! Game two on Sunday in the coaches’ eyes should have been the championship game. Fusion came up against the Midwest Slammers one more time with both teams looking to put a “W” on the board. The Slammers went up 1-0 in the first inning, that score stayed the same until the 4th inning when Fusion added 1 to tie the game. It was then a 1-1 battle the rest of the game until the bottom of the last inning. Rachel O came to the plate and hit a BOMB to left field for a stand up double; AW then came to the plate and laid down the perfect sac bunt to move Rachel to third. Abby P stepped up next and scored the winning run (2-1) to advance the Fusion to the championship game! We always tell the girls in games like this against the Slammers, it doesn’t matter win or loose, these games are fun to be involved in!
The Championship Game paired Fusion with Bellevue Shockers Purple. The girls did not pull any punches, they BROUGHT IT all weekend and this game was no exception. Fusion came out on top with an 11-1 victory and are the 2009 ASA Spring Fling Champions! Congratulations Ladies!
Fusions next tournament will be the River City Showdown in Mason City IA May 9th and 10th.
