South Dakota Fusion Black Wins Brandon Invitational

The South Dakota Fusion Black capped off a perfect 6-0 weekend with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Brandon Ice.

Fusion Black went 3-0 in pool play Saturday with wins over the Brandon Gators, Le Mars Titans and the Jackson Huskies.

On Sunday, the ladies in black picked up two more wins in bracket play to move to the 5pm championship showdown against the hometown Ice. Fusion Black scored early to go up 2-0, but the Ice came right back and scored 2 runs of their own to tie the game. Both teams had chances to score, but great defense kept the game deadlocked going into the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Fusion Black's Maggie Loudenslager kept herself alive with a nine pitch at bat, until she finally drew a walk. Brooklyn Reilly's sacrifice bunt moved Loudenslager into scoring position and brought Fusion's Ceci Heiberger to the plate. With two outs, Heiberger blooped a single behind the Ice shortstop. Louenslager was already on the move from second base and when the ball was bobbled by the defender, she rounded third base on the fly and headed for home, beating the throw and ending the game in front of a packed grandstand.

South Dakota Fusion Black will face Brookings and the Sioux Falls Heat in a league double header this week before packing up and heading to Oklahoma City where they have been invited to play in the ASA Hall of Fame 14u Tournament.
